1045a-News You Probably Didn’t Hear
A new survey finds the top 5 burger toppings are cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup and onions. [Tomatoes made the cut, which is impressive considering nine out of ten of them taste like wet cardboard.]
More than four out of ten American millionaires say they do not feel rich. [Those must be the four who are forced to get out and fill up their own gas tank.]
1115a-IN THE UNITED STATES, WHAT SHOULD YOU NEVER DO?
- Get out of your car and approach the cop when being stopped by a cop unless told to.
- Get into a fist fight. Today, that other person might be carrying and you could get shot. Just walk away.
- Never show up to someone’s home unannounced. Unlike many cultures, Americans expect a text first.
- Don’t go to Oklahoma, it’s boring.
- Get so sick or injured that you have to ride in an ambulance. They charge you thousands for a ride.
- Never stand too close to someone in a line. Americans guard their personal space fiercely.
- Don’t talk on speakerphone or FaceTime in public spaces. Having a conversation blasting on speaker is considered the height of main-character syndrome.
1145a-QUICK JOKE
Two new convicts were assigned to a two-man jail cell. After being locked in, one asked the other, “How long you in for?” The other says, “Fifty years.” The first convict replies, “I’m in for sixty, you better take the bed by the door.”
115p-CURE WARTS (AND MORE) AT THIS ANCIENT IRISH WELL
There’s an Irish well credited since ancient times with healing everything from warts to backaches. St. Ciaran’s well near Kells in County Meath has drawn the faithful for centuries. The first documentation of its healing power dates back to AD 766.
… For headaches, people dip their head in water from one side of a small rock well and recite three “Our Fathers” and three “Glory be to the Fathers.”
… For toothaches they use water from the opposite side of the same rock feature, applying it as a cure.
… A nearby “chair‑like” rock is believed to cure back pain when the sufferer sits in it.
… The cure for warts requires that the sufferer walk home from the well in utter silence and sprinkle the healing water on the warts every day for three weeks and they’ll be gone.
145p-THIS JOB STINKS
There are people in China who are making roughly $50,000 each year by smelling and analyzing human flatulence. The idea is that, much like a good wine expert, these expert noses can dissect the finer notes of bodily gases to determine health issues that could come up in the patient.

215p-MORE MOM TIME
If moms with little kids had an extra hour in the day, what would they do with it? Almost half the mothers surveyed, 44 percent, would spend that extra hour with their children. Twenty-eight percent would like to use it as personal time, and 15 percent would sleep. Only 10 percent of moms would spend that extra hour with their mate.

245p-SOCCER MONEY
The World Cup winners walk away with a ton of money. The winners’ payout: $50 million — the largest single prize in World Cup history. The runner-up takes home $33 million. Third place: $29 million and fourth place: $27 million. And referees are getting in on the big bucks, too. Referees at the World Cup could earn up to $100,000, with large bonuses paid on top, if they are chosen to officiate at the later stages of the tournament.

315p-A PEOPLE OF FEWER WORDS
People today speak considerably fewer words than they did just 20 years ago. Overall, people spoke around 15,900 words per day in 2005, but that number has dropped to about 12,700. In the age of self-checkouts, social media and chronic loneliness, the number of words people speak each day has fallen by about 20 percent over 14 years.

345p-FUTURE’S HERE
The future’s here. Researchers have built functional robots out of DNA. They’re machines with moving joints and programmable logic. They are machines so small they could seek out a cancer cell, deliver a drug directly to it, or grab a virus and block it from infecting healthy tissue.
