1045a-News You Probably Didn’t Hear

A study found that it’s better for the health of both baby and mother if the mother breastfeeds the baby but sleeps in a different bed. [It was less stress on the mothers, and the babies were happy to get away from all that snoring.]

Scientists think there are at least 2 trillion galaxies. [Which means there’s a chance of discovering an alien civilization — possibly an alien civilization that thinks we taste delicious.]

1115-Weird International News

A fire department in Japan was called to a home to extinguish a fire. When they reached their destination they realized the fire had already been put out. Before leaving the scene one of the firemen decided to have a smoke but failed to completely extinguish his cigarettes. The passenger seat burst into flames only moments later.

Police in Russia charged a man after he drove in reverse 25 miles along a highway. The driver told police he was on his way home and reverse was the only gear working in the car at the time.

1145a-THE ‘DAD’ WHO WASN’T DAD ON WHATSAPP

I was going through my show notes from five years ago and I just gotta re-share this wild story. Again, this is from 2021. It was about a guy on Twitter who shared the story of how a complete stranger was added to his family WhatsApp group as ‘dad’ by accident — and the stranger didn’t correct it for six months. UK Twitter user @JonnoHopkins shared that when his dad seemed unaware of family news he would say, “Dad, you’re in the WhatsApp group — you’re reading the messages.” His dad would say, “I am?” JonnoHopkins would just chalk it up to his father “being old.” He realized he had added ‘Peter’ (his father’s name) to the community instead of the individual saved in his contacts as ‘dad’ when he formed it. But he didn’t connect the dots, and he claimed it might have gone on “for literally years” if his sister hadn’t asked if he could add their father to the party, and it “dawned on me that it wasn’t my dad’s number.” It turned out that the man he’d been addressing as his father for six months was actually a plumber named Peter who came to his apartment 8 YEARS EARLIER (2013) to repair his washing machine! JonnoHopkins clarified that he never suspected his ‘dad’s silence because “he’s never been a chat room boy”.

115p-THE MOST COMMONLY STOLEN FOOD IN THE WORLD Cheese is big business. According to Dairy Industries International, the global cheese sales were $105.5 billion in 2025. And the cheese business is big enough that black market sales of it are also quite lucrative. This may explain why a reported 4 percent of all cheese produced in any given year ends up stolen, which makes this delicious dairy product the most commonly stolen food in the world. Cheese trumps fresh meat, chocolate, alcohol, seafood, and infant formula, all of which made the most-stolen list. And it isn’t just random shoplifters who steal cheese for their own consumption. Most of the 4 percent figure consists of larger-scale black market operations, where the goods end up being re-sold to shops and restaurants.

145p-WHEN LIFE FEELS OVERWHELMING

When life feels overwhelming, try asking yourself one simple question: “What’s my first step?” That small phrase does more than calm you down — it changes which part of your brain is in charge. The amygdala, your built-in alarm system, handles fear and panic. But when you focus on taking one step at a time, your prefrontal cortex — the part responsible for logic and problem-solving — takes over. This shift helps you move from feeling stuck and anxious to thinking clearly and taking real action.

215p-OSCAR FACTS

The 98th Academy Awards will be handed out this Sunday (3/15) and while all the attention will be on who wins one of the coveted statuettes, we wondered what we really know about Oscar itself. We found out that each Oscar statuette stands 13.5 inches tall and weighs 8.5 pounds. The statuette depicts a knight holding a crusader’s sword, standing on a reel of film with five spokes, representing the original branches of the Academy: actors, directors, producers, technicians, and writers. And just like the actors, the statuettes are not what they appear to be. The Oscars are made of gold-plated bronze.

245p-NOT THE ONLY UNLUCKY DAY

We’re afraid of Friday the 13th, but other countries fear other dates. April 4th is unlucky for the Chinese — 4/4 is considered the unluckiest day of the year. Most hotels in the country do not even have a fourth floor. Italy has Friday the 17th. Japan has September 9th. In Spain it is Tuesday the 13th.

315p-MANDATORY HEADPHONES

Can’t stand it when plane passengers watch videos on full blast when you are trying to catch some sleep on a flight? Well, those flying with United Airlines will be glad to know the carrier is now requiring passengers to wear headphones when watching videos or listening to audio content, or they will risk getting booted off the plane.

345p-JUST A BASEMENT?

Does Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg know something we don’t know? He has downplayed speculation that he’s prepared for a doomsday scenario, insisting that his bunker, attached to his ranch in Hawaii is just a “basement.” Meanwhile, companies in New Zealand are reporting that a number of billionaires have built doomsday bunkers just in case the world ends.

415p-WHAT’S A BILLION?

When it comes to big money, we hear the word “billion” a lot. But it is hard to imagine what a billion really is, so we thought we’d pass these comparisons along: About a billion minutes ago, the Roman Empire was in full swing. (One billion minutes is about 1,900 years.) About a billion hours ago, we were living in the Stone Age. (One billion hours is about 114,000 years.) And about a billion months ago, dinosaurs walked the earth. (One billion months is about 82 million years.)
